World Music Day

The core purpose of World Music Day, since its inception in France in 1982, is to:

•       Democratise Music: The primary goal is to make music accessible to everyone. Encouraging free public performances removes economic and social barriers, allowing people from all walks of life to experience live music.
•          Promote Musical Diversity: It encourages the celebration of all genres and forms of music, from classical to contemporary and folk to fusion, and showcases the rich tapestry of musical expressions around the world.
•          Encourage Participation: The day isn't just for listening; it actively encourages people to "Make Music". This includes seasoned musicians, aspiring artists, and even those who've never played an instrument to engage with music creatively.
•          Foster Community and Connection: By bringing musicians and audiences together in shared public spaces, World Music Day strengthens community bonds and highlights music's power to unite people and bridge cultural divides.
•          Support Musicians: It provides a platform for both established and emerging artists to showcase their talents and connect with a wider audience.

 World Music Day 2025 Theme and Purpose

•       The theme for World Music Day 2025 is "Healing Through Harmony". This theme emphasises music's ability to provide emotional healing, relieve stress, and foster social unity.
•         It highlights the power of melody and rhythm in overcoming both personal and societal challenges. It underscores music's ability to:
•         Provide emotional healing: Music can soothe, comfort, and help process emotions.
•         Relieve stress: Melodies and rhythms have a therapeutic effect, reducing anxiety and promoting relaxation.
•         Foster social unity: Music acts as a universal language, bringing people together regardless of their backgrounds, cultures, or differences and promoting a sense of shared experience and understanding.
•        Overcome challenges: It reflects the power of music to uplift spirits and provide strength in difficult times.

ಈ ಕವನಕ್ಕೆ ರಾಗ ಸಂಯೋಜಿಸಿ ಕೀಬೋರ್ಡ್ ನಲ್ಲಿ ನುಡಿಸಿದ್ದೇನೆ. ಕೇಳಿ ಇತರರೊಂದಿಗೂ ಹಂಚಿಕೊಂಡು ಉತ್ತೇಜಿಸಿ.  

ನಾನೆ ಬರೆದ ನವ್ಯಲೋಕ ಎಂಬ ಕವನದ ಆಶಯ ಹೀಗಿದೆ.  ಇಂದು ಯಾರನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿದರೂ ಅದಿಲ್ಲ,  ಇದಿಲ್ಲ, ಹೀಗಿರಬೇಕು, ಹಾಗಿರಬೇಕು ಎಂದು ಹೇಳುವವರೇ ಹೊರತು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಎಲ್ಲವೂ ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಯಾರೂ ಸಂತೋಷ ಪಡುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ತಕ್ಕಂತೆ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ದುಃಖ, ದ್ವೇಷ, ಸ್ವಾರ್ಥ, ಹಣದ ದಾಹ ಇವುಗಳೇ ಹೆಚ್ಚಾಗಿ ಪ್ರೀತಿ,  ಮಮತೆ, ಗೌರವ,  ಇವುಗಳು  ಕಣ್ಮರೆಯಾಗುತ್ತಿವೆ. ಹೀಗಾಗಿ ಕಣ್ಮರೆಯಾಗಿರುವ ಇವೆಲ್ಲವೂ ನಮಗೆ ಸಿಗಲಿ ಎಂಬುದು ಕನಸೇ ಆಗಿದೆ. ಆ ಕನಸು ನನಸಾಗಲಿ ಎಂಬ ಬಯಕೆ ಕವನದಲ್ಲಿ ಮೂಡಿದೆ. ಜಾತಿಧರ್ಮದ ಹಂಗೇ ಇಲ್ಲದ ಈ ಲೋಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರೀತಿ, ಗೌರವ, ಮಮತೆ ಎಲ್ಲವೂ ಮೇಳೈಸಿ ಪರಮಾತ್ಮನೆಂಬ ಒಂದು ಶಕ್ತಿಯು ನಮ್ಮನ್ನು ಕಾಯುವುದು. ಈ ಹೊಸ ಜಗತ್ತಿನಲ್ಲಿ ದುಃಖ ದ್ವೇಷಗಳು ಇರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ, ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಅನುಕೂಲಗಳು ಇದ್ದು ಸರ್ವ ಸುಖವನ್ನು ನೀಡುವುದು. ಹಕ್ಕಿಗಳ ಕಲರವ, ಬಣ್ಣಬಣ್ಣದ ಹೂ ತೋಟ ಇವೆಲ್ಲವೂ ಮನಸಿಗೆ ಮುದ ನೀಡುವುದು.  

I wrote this poetry, and the following are its wishes. Everyone you come across today claims to be unhappy. They gripe about a lot of the bad things that happen in our society. We ourselves can witness sadness, jealousy, self-centredness, etc., taking precedence over tenderness, respect, and love. We want to be granted respect, love, affection, and other good things. There won't be any grief in this new world; instead, there will be enjoyment and all the advantages. The sight of blossoming flowers and chattering birds is a visual delight. We are protected by an unseen superpower that grants us all of our desires. The poem reflects all of these desires.

ಈ ಕವನಕ್ಕೆ ರಾಗ ಸಂಯೋಜಿಸಿ ಕೀಬೋರ್ಡ್ ನಲ್ಲಿ ನುಡಿಸಿದ್ದೇನೆ. ಕೇಳಿ ಇತರರೊಂದಿಗೂ ಹಂಚಿಕೊಂಡು ಉತ್ತೇಜಿಸಿ.  

ನಾನೆ ಬರೆದ ನವ್ಯಲೋಕ ಎಂಬ ಕವನದ ಆಶಯ ಹೀಗಿದೆ.  ಇಂದು ಯಾರನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿದರೂ ಅದಿಲ್ಲ,  ಇದಿಲ್ಲ, ಹೀಗಿರಬೇಕು, ಹಾಗಿರಬೇಕು ಎಂದು ಹೇಳುವವರೇ ಹೊರತು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಎಲ್ಲವೂ ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಯಾರೂ ಸಂತೋಷ ಪಡುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ತಕ್ಕಂತೆ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ದುಃಖ, ದ್ವೇಷ, ಸ್ವಾರ್ಥ, ಹಣದ ದಾಹ ಇವುಗಳೇ ಹೆಚ್ಚಾಗಿ ಪ್ರೀತಿ,  ಮಮತೆ, ಗೌರವ,  ಇವುಗಳು  ಕಣ್ಮರೆಯಾಗುತ್ತಿವೆ. ಹೀಗಾಗಿ ಕಣ್ಮರೆಯಾಗಿರುವ ಇವೆಲ್ಲವೂ ನಮಗೆ ಸಿಗಲಿ ಎಂಬುದು ಕನಸೇ ಆಗಿದೆ. ಆ ಕನಸು ನನಸಾಗಲಿ ಎಂಬ ಬಯಕೆ ಕವನದಲ್ಲಿ ಮೂಡಿದೆ. ಜಾತಿಧರ್ಮದ ಹಂಗೇ ಇಲ್ಲದ ಈ ಲೋಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರೀತಿ, ಗೌರವ, ಮಮತೆ ಎಲ್ಲವೂ ಮೇಳೈಸಿ ಪರಮಾತ್ಮನೆಂಬ ಒಂದು ಶಕ್ತಿಯು ನಮ್ಮನ್ನು ಕಾಯುವುದು. ಈ ಹೊಸ ಜಗತ್ತಿನಲ್ಲಿ ದುಃಖ ದ್ವೇಷಗಳು ಇರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ, ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಅನುಕೂಲಗಳು ಇದ್ದು ಸರ್ವ ಸುಖವನ್ನು ನೀಡುವುದು. ಹಕ್ಕಿಗಳ ಕಲರವ, ಬಣ್ಣಬಣ್ಣದ ಹೂ ತೋಟ ಇವೆಲ್ಲವೂ ಮನಸಿಗೆ ಮುದ ನೀಡುವುದು.

This is an outstanding ghazal from the film Adalat, and listeners feel proud of compositions like this. Music director Madanmohan and singer Lata Mangeshkar are worth acknowledging. Heart-touching song immortalised by the golden voice of Lata and the histrionic performance of Nargis.  It is a classical Rag-based song in Rag Malgunji.

The meaning of this great song touches the heart and takes you to people you loved but could not be with. This deep pain is expressed through this song. Living for somebody, loving somebody and waiting for somebody.

Sangolli Rayanna and Kittur Chennamma fought to drive the British out of the nation. Krantiveera Sangollirayanna station is the name given to the Bangalore railway station in honour of him. The film 'Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna' was released in 1967. The black-and-white movie was a big hit in Karnataka. Asha Bhonsle, Usha Mangeshkar, and Mannade sang the remaining songs in the movie, with Lata Mangeshkar contributing two vocals. Laxman Berlekar composed the music. Every song has a great melody. Lata Mangeshkar has sung this song.

This lovely song is in Uttara Karnataka's Kannada accent. Lata Mangeshkar's ambiguous accent makes it a little difficult to understand. After paying close attention, I wrote and posted it here. I apologise if the lyrics include any errors.

ಸಂಗೊಳ್ಳಿ ರಾಯಣ್ಣ ಕಿತ್ತೂರು ಚೆನ್ನಮ್ಮನ ಜೊತೆಗೂಡಿ ದೇಶದಿಂದ ಬ್ರಿಟಿಷರನ್ನು ಹೊರಗೋಡಿಸಲು ಹೋರಾಡಿದ ವೀರ. ಈತನ ನೆನಪಿಗಾಗಿಯೇ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ರೈಲ್ವೆ ನಿಲ್ದಾಣವನ್ನು ಕ್ರಾಂತಿವೀರ ಸಂಗೊಳ್ಳಿರಾಯಣ್ಣ ನಿಲ್ದಾಣ ಎಂದು ಹೆಸರಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಇತ್ತೀಚಿಗೆ ಈತನ ಕ್ರಾಂತಿಯಬಗ್ಗೆ ಒಂದು ಚಿತ್ರವೂ ಬಂದಿತ್ತು. ಆದರೆ ಇದಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಮೊದಲೇ ೧೯೬೭ರಲ್ಲಿ "ಕ್ರಾಂತಿವೀರ ಸಂಗೊಳ್ಳಿ ರಾಯಣ್ಣ" ಎಂಬ ಒಂದು ಚಿತ್ರ ಬಂದಿತ್ತು. ಉತ್ತರಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಭಾಷೆಯ ಸೊಗಡಿನ ಆ ಚಿತ್ರ ಕಪ್ಪು ಬಿಳುಪಿನಲ್ಲಿದ್ದು ಜನಪ್ರಿಯವಾಯಿತು. ಈ ಚಿತ್ರದ ಇನ್ನೊಂದು ಹೆಗ್ಗಳಿಕೆಯೆಂದರೆ ಅದರಲ್ಲಿ ಲತಾಮಂಗೇಶ್ಕರ್ ಅವರು ಎರಡು ಹಾಡನ್ನು ಹಾಡಿದ್ದುದು, ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಆಶಾ ಭೊಂಸ್ಗೆ , ಉಷಾ ಮಂಗೇಶ್ಕರ್ ಹಾಗೂ ಮನ್ನಾಡೆ ಅವರು ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಹಾಡುಗಳನ್ನು ಹಾಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣ್ ಬೆರಲೇಕರ್ ಎಂಬುವವರು ಸಂಗೀತ ನಿರ್ದೇಶನವನ್ನು ಮಾಡಿದ್ದರು. ಹಾಡುಗಳೆಲ್ಲವೂ ಬಹಳ ಇಂಪಾಗಿ ಮನಸೆಳೆದಿದ್ದವು. "ಎಲ್ಲಾರು ಇರತೀರೋ" ಎಂಬ ಹಾಡನ್ನು ಲತಾ ಮಂಗೇಶ್ಕರ್ ಅವರು ಬಹಳ ಮಧುರವಾಗಿ ಹಾಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ.  ಉತ್ತರಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಸೊಗಡಿನ ಈ ಹಾಡನ್ನು ಅರ್ಥ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದು ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಕಷ್ಟ, ಅದರಲ್ಲೂ ಲತಾ ಮಂಗೇಶ್ಕರ್ ಅವರ ಅಸ್ಪಷ್ಟ ಉಚ್ಚಾರಣೆ ಇನ್ನೂ ಕಠಿಣವಾಗಿಸಿದೆ. ಹಾಡನ್ನು ನಿಧಾನವಾಗಿ ಕೇಳಿ ನಾನೇ ಬರೆದುಕೊಂಡು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಕಟಿಸಿದ್ದೇನೆ. ತಪ್ಪುಗಳಿದ್ದರೆ ಕ್ಷಮೆಯಿರಲಿ. 

ಸಂಗೊಳ್ಳಿ ರಾಯಣ್ಣ ಬ್ರಿಟಿಷರ ವಿರುದ್ಧ ಕ್ರಾಂತಿ ಮಾಡಿ ಹೋರಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದುದರಿಂದ ಅವರ ಕಣ್ಮರೆಸಿ ಜೀವನ ಸಾಗಿಸಬೇಕಿತ್ತು. ಹೀಗಾಗಿ ಮನೆಗೆ ಬರುವುದು, ಹೆಂಡತಿಯ ಒಡನಾಟ ಎಲ್ಲವೂ ಅಪರೂಪ. ಚಾತಕ ಪಕ್ಷಿಯಂತೆ ಗಂಡನಿಗಾಗಿ ಕಾಯುತ್ತಾ, ಆತನಿಗೆ ಏನೂ ಆಗದಿರಲಿ ಎಂದು ಬೇಡುತ್ತ ಜೀವನ ಸಾಗಿಸುವ ಅಮಾಯಕ ಹೆಂಡತಿಯ ಮನದಾಳದ ಅನಿಸಿಕೆಗಳು ಹಾಡಿನ ರೂಪದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೊರಹೊಮ್ಮಿದೆ. ಅವಳ ಮನಸ್ಥಿತಿಯನ್ನು ನೆನೆಸಿಕೊಂಡರೆ ಒಂದು ರೀತಿಯ ಖೇದ ಉಂಟಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಕಲಾವತಿ ರಾಗದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಈ ಮಧುರವಾದ ಹಾಡು, ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯವನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿ, ಓದಿ ಅನುಭವಿಸಿ. 

ಹಾಡಿನ ಸಾರಾಂಶ ಹೀಗಿದೆ :- 

ಎಲ್ಲಿ ಇರುತ್ತೀರೋ, ಯಾವಾಗ ಬರುತ್ತಿರೋ, ಜೀವಗೆಳತಿಯಾದ ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಹೀಗೇಕೆ ಮರೆತುಬಿಡುತ್ತೀರಿ? 

ಕುರಿಹಿಂಡು ಮೇಯ್ದನಂತರ ಮೇಲೆ ತಾವಾಗಿಯೇ ಮನೆಗೆ ಬಂದುಬಿಡುತ್ತದೆ, ಹಕ್ಕಿಗಳು ಸಂಜೆಯಾದೊಡನೆ ಗೂಡಿಗೆ ಮರಳಿ ಬಂದುಬಿಡುತ್ತವೆ, ಯಾವತ್ತೂ ತಮ್ಮ ವಾಸಸ್ಥಾನವನ್ನು ಮರೆಯುವುದಿಲ್ಲ, ನೀವೇಕೆ ಹೀಗೆ?

ಕಾಡಿನ ಒಳಗೆ ಹುಲಿರಾಯನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟರೆ ಇನ್ಯಾರು ಸಾಹಸಿಗಳು ಇಲ್ಲ, ಹಾಗೆಯೆ ನನ್ನ ಪ್ರೀತಿಯ ಗಂಡ, ನಾಡಿನ ಒಳಗೆಲ್ಲ ಧೀರ, ಶೂರ. ಆದರೂ ನಾಡನ್ನು ಕಟ್ಟುವ ಭರದಲ್ಲಿ ನಿನಗಾಗಿ ಪರಿತಪಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವ ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಮರೆತು ಬಿಟ್ಟರೆ ಹೇಗೆ? 

ನಿಮಗಾಗಿ ಆತುರದಿಂದ ಓಡಿಬಂದು, ಎದೆಯ ಬೇಗುದಿ ಹೆಚ್ಚಾಗಿ ಬೇಸರಗೊಂಡಿದ್ದೇನೆ, ಆದರೂ ಕಾತುರದಿಂದ ಕಾಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದೇನೆ, ಎಂದು ಬರುತ್ತೀರಿ ? ಹೀಗೆ ಮರೆತರೆ ಹೇಗೆ? ಬೇಗ ಬನ್ನಿ ಬೇಗ ಬನ್ನಿ.
